While disposing of bodies in a remote stretch of woods, a man repeatedly ignores his ringing phone—an irritation he believes he’s entitled to silence. By the time he finally checks his unread messages, the consequences of that decision have already caught up to him.
Jason’s head snapped towards his ringing phone. That damn thing always went off. People called and texted for the most useless things. To ask how his day went. Or when they can come visit. Then complain about being “left on read” when they see him. Don't they know he has important things to do? He let it sit on the seat, ringing over and over.
“Not right now,” he said. “I got bodies to hide.”
Turning the key in the ignition, he buckled up, then shifted into drive. He knew a location that would work—about a thirty minute drive. Just off the road, hidden behind trees and dark. No one ever stopped there, which meant he would be able to dig a hole, drop these bodies, and go back to a normal life. All unnoticed.
